View Full Version : Is Man In The Mirror Misunderstood?

I was just thinking how someone (I forget who) said MITM was about changing the world, but how you have to make changes in yourself - more specifically on your face - to start with. But I don't think that's what the song says at all. I don't think its to do with cosmetic surgery. I think when Michael sings "man in the mirror" and "make that change" he means within yourself, as a person, and that the mirror is metaphorical.
What do y'all think? Random thread I know but just a thought that popped into my head.

I never thought of his face lol. I've always thought it was bout the person himself.
"take a look at yourself and make that change" It's like to see wich kind of human u are not helping the poor and dying and then making a change to the world. That's how I've always felt about it. :)

:laugh..who the hell said it was? Of course...it's about starting with yourself if you want to better the world.
That why he keeps saying 'you gotta start with yourself'. Then he's talking about seeing children starving and such.
I don't know who said it was about literally changing your apparance.

yes that mean we all need to have a look at ourselves, just look at our hearts , look at our souls, how can i pretend see nothing when the dying and poor children in front of us?? that's Michael's meaning...xiixix :console
NOT like those ignorance people think look at mirror and see how you look.. :careless :careless

Yeah, I mean I thought that starting with yourself to make a change in the world was always pretty obvious. It's just lame ass comedian and the assholes who made that so called movie like to take it out of context and made it about cosmetic surgery. There was even some program on Discovery Health call Man in the Mirror and it was about Michael’s plastic surgery. I don't know, maybe they think they're doing something clever but it pisses me off because what they're really doing is distorting the meaning of a very special and enlightening song. The message is something that people need to listen to, not make fun of.

I guess that means that someone else wrote a song about MJ surgery. MJ didn't even write the song. Idiots.

Most recent person I heard to say that was some dumbass who wrote a book about Michael. He said MITM's deeper meaning highlights Michael's state of mind and his "addiction" to cosmetic surgery. :careless

LOL, well, who cares? Michael Jackson is just like anyone else. He has the right to change his face if he wants to. I know the song Man In The Mirror is not about cosmetic surgery. What on earth gave someone that goofball idea?

It doesn't mean anything about cosmetic surgery.
I've heard people say stuff like, "yea, make a change, no thanks!" cus they're immature lil pricks who don't know how to anything but take the piss out of Michael.

I don't know where that person got that Idea? The meaning of Man in the Mirror is about changing yourself (You inner self) before making the world a better place, because you have to be happy about yourself before you can make a change to someone else's life and make them happy. Alot of people do mis-interpret the whole meaning of Man In the Mirror, hence they are put on the wrong track, and come up with some bizzare meaning for the song
Thats how I see it.

If youve ever read "That one in the mirror" you'd have a better understanding of it.

Considering that MITM aint even written by Michael but Siedah Garrett & Glen Ballard. Sum1's really got their meanings of the song completely wrong! Dumbass! :laugh

yeah that's what I was gonna say! LOL
And btw, have you ever listened to Siedah's own version of "Man in the mirrow"?
It's really good, but I must admit that I love Michael's version the most.
If you want to check Siedah's version out you can listen to it on her webpage

Its not even about research, its all media propaganda. Ignore the OBVIOUS REASON for the song, and focus on what will get ppl to listen/watch/purchase. Its all crap. They know what the song is about. :ratingsho

this aint worth arguing. They know exactly what the song's about. Trying to create ish when there is none to begin with. Trying to taint a beautiful song. That's all.
