Fragments

Fragments

We wandered in and out
Eyeing the grocery boys
Down open corridors--
Shopping for images,
At night.

We walk at night, you and I,
Through solitary streets--
Lights out in carboard houses,
And tin towers,
Fizzy pops and juicy drinks.

For we'll both be dreaming
Of the lost America--
(Hiding in the tomatoes)
With a headache
Watching the boat of
Love dissapear.

Our fists in torn pockets,
A moth worth a penny,
And a fly worth five cents.
As I dream of glorious loves
I tasted in September
When the sky had a hole
And my heart shadows of vigor.

Oh, lovely dream!
(Of melted ice cream)
On which each finds his death.
I can only pray for the
Placid mirrors of their
Hearts, hidden in the tea.
