It has been five years since the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, but the legendary musician still lives in the hearts of millions of his fans. Now the big news is that Sony Music has collaborated with the iconic musician A.R. Rahman’s K.M. Conservatory music school to create cover versions of two songs from the King of Pop, MJ’s new music from his posthumous album Xscape.

Perhaps, it is for the first time in India that an official version of Michael Jackson’s songs will be released giving his music a desi feel. When DC got in touch with Fathima Rafiq, executive director for KM and sister of A.R. Rahman, she said that they were thrilled to be part of a prestigious project like this.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for KM students to be creating Indian-influenced covers of these tracks from such a celebrated musician. We hope to capture the spirit and essence of Michael Jackson’s music and infuse them with elements from different Indian traditions.”

Fathima adds, “More than 12 of our students are enthusiastically working on the official release of MJ’s tracks. The tunes and lyrics will remain the same. We have added more elements to the BGM to get that Indian touch”.
