Is anyone else not going to watch the Grammy Awards?

Post by candles » Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:18 am

After hearing that the kids may be accepting his award...i refuse to watch. I have been good and accepted his passing but yesterday after hearing that I nearly cried. I dont think I could handle seeing his kids, his biggest achievement in life, accepting his 'lifetime achievement' award. It's a sweet thing knowing how much his kids meant to him but I just can't handle it.

Does anyone else feel this way or am I just too sensitive lol

I understand how you feel. It's still really hard emotionally for all of us. I know I'll probably lose it when I watch the tribute.

Yeah, now it's said that Prince will read a statement at the actually grammys. I will watch though, I don't blame you guys for not wanting to watch it.

The children were to appear at a much smaller Grammy event Saturday night to accept their father's Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, but Katherine Jackson -- their grandmother and legal guardian -- agreed to the change, a spokesman for the pop star's father said.

Instead, former Jackson manager Frank Dileo made the Saturday night appearance. He also told CNN the Jackson children would be at the Sunday night tribute.

No family members had been invited to take part in either of the Grammy tributes to Michael Jackson until last week when the Jacksons complained, a family source said.

"However, there has been some recent rumors that I am displeased with the idea that Michael's children are accepting the award on my son's behalf," Joe Jackson said in a statement to CNN. "On the contrary, I am very proud of my grandchildren. Katherine and I are the ones who initiated their participation."

The youngest of the three, 7-year-old Blanket, is not expected to attend the show, although that could change, a family source said.

Jackson's oldest son is expected to read a statement on behalf of the family during the Grammy tribute, the source said.

The children will not enter the Los Angeles Convention Center through the media-lined red carpet, the family source said. Instead, they will be escorted backstage by Katherine Jackson, the family source said.

When Paris Katherine Jackson delivered a spontaneous speech at the massive memorial in July, it was the first time the public had heard from the children. They were often hidden by veils or blankets when seen with their father.

"Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," she said. "And I just want to say that I love him so much."

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow, who oversees the Grammy show, said Sunday night's Jackson tribute will be "an extraordinarily emotional, moving and fitting tribute."

Singers Carrie Underwood and Smokey Robinson are among several stars who will take part in the musical tribute.

A segment of a 3-D video produced by Jackson shortly before his death will be shown. It was based on his pro-environment "Earth Song" for use in his "This Is It" tour.

Michael Jackson was 50 years old when he died June 25, 2009, just two weeks before he was to begin a long series of comeback shows in London.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled his death a homicide resulting from a combination of drugs, primarily Propofol and Lorazepam.

A criminal investigation has focused on Dr. Conrad Murray, his personal physician who was with him when he died, although no charges have been filed.

Ugh, this is hard for me! I feel so sorry for those kids, the media is salavating to get a piece of them. Their just kids. Leave them alone! Everytime I watch TII, the ending is so hard for me. It's just so final! It's not fair. People made Michael's life a living hell for so many years and practically wanted to burn him at the stake at one point and remove his children from his custody and now it's like a whole different reality. Everybody loves and misses Michael. Now we have tribute after tribute, people buying up everything MJ related and running to the store to get TII. I'm still angry and bitter at all this. Michael was here. He was here for the longest time and people took him for granted. Now we're being subjected to living in a world without him! It's just not fair!

I'm going to watch for sure. I personally feel like I can't NOT watch, though I completely understand if other fans feel that way. Nearly 8 months on (wow...:() and it's still really, really hard...Michael'sabsence will never fully stop hurting, I don't think.. :icon_bluecry

I did have mixed feelings about the kids being on there at first, only because Michael was always so adament that they not be thrust into the spotlight, the 'fishbowl' he so often spoke of having grown up in and in the wake of his passing, they probably need that privacy more than ever. But by the same token, he did speak of that day when they would go on stage and they are getting older....I think so long as it's by their own accord and it's not TOO much aside from or after that, it could've been okay with him..I can't speak for Michael obviously, but I think he would be proud to see his 'Lifetime Acheivement' award be accepted by the people who he, so often, in his own words, spoke of as his greatest acheivements of all. :)

To be honest, I was hoping this would be a rumor. I'm ok with it if they were ok with accepting the award without people convincing them.

thank you!! that's why i'm getting angry.

and to think...didn't he win a lifetime achievement before the allegations? just to think that his recognition as an artist lessened because of that...that just makes me angry that now you want to give him awards when he's dead?

i'm glad to know i'm not the only one bitter and angry.

that's why i dont get excited by tributes. where they're only doing it cause it's suddenly 'cool' to like mj now.

When I first found out, I was thinking "rumor". It just seemed like one of those things that stirs ratings, and I was hoping it was just another one of those b.s. teasers to ramp up attention. But since it's a reality, I sincerely hope that no one pushed them into doing this. Because if it happens once, it'll happen again. Last thing Michael would want is for them to be a sideshow or a commodity. The media (and some of the fans) are already treating them like celebs. It's sickening.

On the other hand, if they feel they NEED to do this and that they're following their hearts, then God Bless them. They're a lot braver than I'll ever be.

I will watch it. The Grammy's are one of the more tastefull award shows around and I believe they will do a great job representing him. Michael and the Grammy's have a verry long history together and Michael broke Grammy records. It will be hard but I trust they will truely honor him the right way. I think the fans should support MJ and his children when they are involved, in arepresenting a tribute or award in their father's memory.

it s too late since he is gone. And probably some people think it is good for the kids cause they prbably think they were prisonners before. This is terrible because of the way Michael raised them, they shouldn't have gone to the memorial that opened the door. I won't watch the grammys i don't need a stupid award to show le what Michael did in his life

I regret watching it...even though I didn't know they were going to accept it! I was certain that the Grammy's would only do the tribute and nothing else. I was so caught off guard. When I heard Prince's voice...that puberty voice....it kinda made me realize that no matter how much I was trying to shove it off Michael was getting older. Michael wanted to do TII for his fans...kinda like a thank you for all the times we've stood by him, but he mostly wanted to do it for his children. He knew they were getting older and would be able to appreciate his work even more.

He wanted to show them daddy doing what he does best. Amaze the world, and touch millions.....possibly billions.

And it just makes me so sad. I've been glum all day. My boyfriend gave me the TII dvd today that I've been wanting so bad and I didn't take it home with me. I can't watch it yet. Seeing Prince and Paris again has me feeling like Carol...feeling just the same way I did after the memorial. Just glum and teary eyed.

OMG Saphster...I can't believe you said that.
I have two copies of TII. I wanted the collector pictures.
But I'm scared to touch the thing.
I wanna watch it SO bad, but I can't do it.
I didn't even wanna buy it, but I felt compelled to because it is Michael.
But I just can't watch it.
I really feel like I'm losing it.
I don't think I will ever again in my lifetime act so stupid
and confused over another human being the way I do with Michael.
Maybe I do need therapy.
I really don't know how much more I can take.
I can't tell anybody else but my MJEOL Family.
I feel like I've lost my muse, my mojo.
And I'll NEVER be able to get it back. Ever...
Damn...crying now...:8-26-03baby:
