Jackson sexual abuse lawsuit from choreographer Wade Robson thrown out (2017 Dec 21)

A sexual abuse lawsuit filed by choreographer Wade Robson against the late Michael Jackson's business interests has been dismissed.

The civil suit centred around allegations made by Robson in 2013 that his former friend Jackson sexually abused him for a seven-year period before he hit puberty.

A previous legal motion ruled out Jackson's estate from bearing any responsible for the singer's alleged misdeeds, so Robson refiled his suit against the estate's corporate arms at MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures.

However, Entertainment Weekly reports that a California judge has dismissed the latest lawsuit on technical grounds, rather than ruling on the veracity of Wade Robson's claims.

It was decided that only the now-deceased Jackson, not his estate or business interests, could be held responsible for his alleged abuse. Plus, Robson's suit was filed after the statute of limitations had expired.

In response to Wednesday's ruling, a spokesperson for Michael Jackson said: "The Estate of Michael Jackson believes the court made the correct decision in dismissing Wade Robson's claim against it.

"In my opinion Mr. Robson's allegations, made 20 plus years after they supposedly occurred and years after Mr. Robson testified twice under oath — including in front of a jury — that Michael Jackson had never done anything wrong to him were always about the money rather than a search for the truth."

The reference to Robson's previous testimony under oath refers to him acting as a witness for the defence when Jackson was put on trial, and ultimately acquitted on child sex abuse allegations in 2005.
