LaToya Jackson Weighs In On Michael's Scandal
August 5, 2004
LaTOYA JACKSON, older sister to infamous pop star MICHAEL JACKSON, comes clean to VH1 on Saturday's edition of "All Access" (11 p.m. EDT). Tonight on ET, we have an exclusive look inside the special in which the singer/author/Playboy model opens up about her plastic surgery, her new album, her once tumultuous relationship with "The King of Pop," and how they've reconciled in his time of need.
"Everything is going to work itself out, I know that," LaToya says of the child molestation charges against Michael. "I truly believe in my heart that he will be vindicated."
LaToya reveals that Michael's situation has brought the family closer. "I think it's brought a sense of awareness to the family -- a togetherness," she explains on the special. "We must be careful with what we say, what we do, and how we portray ourselves because people are really misrepresenting everything that's been done."
Something LaToya says the public doesn't realize is that Michael's love for children is just as innocent as her own admiration for young tykes. "When I'm down or depressed and I see a little kid, it makes me happy and it brings joy to my heart," she explains. "Which is the same for Michael. I just think it comes from being a part of a large family."
The music star says she and her brother got along fabulously growing up. "Michael and I were always close, because we were the ones that were so religious," LaToya says. "We would go to school and everyone would have their lunch breaks but we would study the Bible!"
Something else she and Michael have in common is their love for music. LaToya says making her 10th and latest album Startin' Over, was a life-learning experience. "It was very cathartic," the 48-year-old says. "For the first time I could just feel relaxed and comfortable and do my music the way I choose -- and that's what I'm doing!"
As far as Michael's troublesome circumstances, LaToya says his family is his support system. "We always say that it's going to be fine and it's going to be okay," she says. "But he believes that too."
